DIY – Photo Transfer ( Water – Slide Decal Paper) on to Ceramics
Here’s a quick and simple way to decorate a plain mug (or any ceramics) with a photo or artwork by using water – slide decal paper. You can use water decals on glass, porcelain, wax candles, wood, and more.
Things You Will Need:
– Water – Slide Decal Paper for Inkjet Printer
– computer, inkjet printer and a photo/design
– Clear acrylic spray (sealer)
– Bowl or pan of water
– a mug, plate…
– scissors
1. Print your photo on a sheet of decal-transfer paper, following product directions. Leave it to dry for 30 min..
2. Clean your ceramics before applying the decal.
3. Seal the decal paper with 3 quick coats of acrylic spray.
4. Cut out the photo, cutting close to the image outline when using white decal paper.
5. Place the cutout image in a bowl of water for about 20 seconds. The backing paper will curl as the decal loosens from the paper. Remove the cutout before it’s completely released and slide it off the backing paper onto the mug/plate. You can slide the image into position on the mug/plate while it is still very wet. When the image is in position, press down with your fingers to firmly seat it on the mug/plate. Remove the water under and around the decal with a cloth. Allow the decal to dry over night before handling.
6. Pop the ceramic into the oven for 10-15 minutes, 110 degrees.
