How To Make Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
The time has come again to dye Easter eggs. This year try using natural dyes made from everyday ingredients!
• chopped purple/red cabbage (half) — makes blue-green on white eggs
• yellow onion skins — makes orange on white eggs
• eggs
• vinegar
• old stockings
• leafs or other plants parts
Chip or peel away the dry skins from the onions and cut the cabbage.
Clean the eggs so there are no particles sticking to their shells, it best work when you leave the eggs in vinegar for couple minutes.
Now you can start decorating the eggs.
Place the room-temperature eggs into the pots and add water. Bring water to an easy boil over medium heat. Then reduce to low and cover. Simmer for 10 minutes, then start checking for colour by gently raising an egg out with a slotted spoon. Remove pot from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
For better results: place pots in refrigerator until desired colour is reached, which we didn’t do. For brighter colours you are supposed to boil, simmer the dye for 30 minutes and let it cool down, ad a spoon vinegar and than place the eggs inside… We will try this out the next time!!
